Top 5 Ways to Save on Your Energy Bill

July 20, 2010

People are always asking me, "Bob, how do I save on my utility bill?". There are some inexpensive things that you can do today to save on your energy costs.

Summer time is especially hot in the Wiregrass Area. There are inexpensive things that you can do right now to save on your energy costs.

1. Change Your Filter! This is number one thing that people neglect to do that is important to your HVAC system and to your energy costs. Simply changing the filter every 30 days improves the air flow in your cooling system.

A dirty filter will slow down air flow and make the system work harder to keep you warm or cool — wasting energy. A clean filter will also prevent dust and dirt from building up in the system — leading to expensive maintenance and or early system failure.

2. Invest in a programmable thermostat. It is a proven fact that programmable thermostats save on energy costs.

3. Mind your gaps! Check around doors and windows for areas that need caulking or weatherstripping.

4. Check your insultaion. R-30 is recommended for attics and R-13 is recommended for outside walls.

5. Have your HVAC system professionally serviced. Your HVAC system is just like your car.....you have to have tune-ups and change the oil! You will save money on energy and unnecessary repairs if you have regular tune-ups on your HVAC system. Your best value for maintenance is our Premier Discount Club. You will receive two service visits per year plus a discount if you need any parts.
